The Jazz in the Arts Youth Summer Jazz Workshop will be held May 29 to June 2. The workshop is open to middle school and high school musicians.

The workshop will focus on performance techniques.

Calcasieu libraries announce programs for May 26-June 1

All branches of the Calcasieu Parish Public Library will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. Materials may be returned in the book drop boxes at each location and may be renewed online or by calling 337- 437-4153 or 1-800-240-0212.

ULL students named to President's, Dean's List

The following is a news release from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette:

At the end of each regular semester, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette recognizes those students named to the President’s List and the Dean’s List.

Eligible students must be enrolled fulltime.

To be included on the President’s List, students must earn a 3.8 GPA or better.

To be included on the Dean’s List, students must earn a 3.5 GPA or better.

Sulphur PD announces arrests from May 14-15

The following is a news release from the Sulphur Police Department:

The Sulphur Police Department has reported that from May 14-15, officers of the department investigated one traffic accident reporting no injuries and issued eight traffic citations.

Officers also responded to several other incidents resulting in three arrests:

Michael Allen Hetzel, a White Male, 39, of Vidor, Texas, was arrested and booked into the Sulphur City Jail for no display of plates, no driver license, switched plates, no register certificate and no MVI. .

Nearly 1,500 graduates received diplomas at ULL Spring 2013 graduation

The following is a news release from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette:

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette awarded diplomas to 1,479 graduates as part of Saturday’s Spring 2013 Commencement ceremonies.

Doctoral degrees were awarded at a general assembly at the Cajundome that was attended by all graduates. Master's and bachelor's degrees were conferred for each academic college at ceremonies at different campus locations following the general assembly.
